Elsa Joy Bailey on mysticism, healing and spiritual growth
Signals
In heaven, it is kindness
that evokes the most music.
Each small benevolence we do sends
a swift flash of Light into the ethers beyond us.
When God peers into the faint darkened mist
that blankets this earthly dream,
that is all He can see: dazzling pulses of Light.
Nothing more.
You doubt me? It's true.
Like a skilled & devoted gardener, He watches each plant, each leaf, each tender lifeform
for signs of awakening.
Light is how He measures growth.
And all kindnesses, large or small,
create the same tell-tale lightburst.
Raise funds to heal a disease
and that is indeed a kindness.
Carry a helpless soul
from a burning building
and that is kindness, too.
Light will arise from it.
But guess what? Quieter stuff also streaks
heavenward with the same intense laser brightness.
I once knew someone who sat
at the bedside of a stranger
for four hours straight
in order to offer comfort. Why did she do it? Compassion.
Now, there's a streak of Light.
I saw another person
run two blocks, panting hard,
to return a wallet to someone
who'd dropped it on the street.
Why did he do it? Compassion.
Light leapt on that day.
As a matter of fact,
I've witnessed kindness even closer.
I have a friend who has a way
of making me feel deeply special
even though, in truth, I play
only a miniscule role in his life.
Why does he do it? Compassion.
Another wild burst of Light.
And like any passionate gardener
watching over his beloved plants,
God sees each flash, nods,
and takes loving note.
